2 hour workshop to glaze two stoneware mugs.
Price includes tuition, all materials, and tea/coffee.
What is stoneware?
Most of the ceramics we fire in the studio is earthenware clay which is very affordable and ideal for ornamental pieces such as figurines and pots. The glazing process makes it stronger so it can also be used for plates and mugs, however it cannot be safely heated in ovens or microwaves.
In comparison, stoneware clay has a grittier texture and is fired at a higher temperature than earthenware. This means the result is a piece of pottery that is strong and chip resistant. Stoneware is often used to make mugs and baking dishes and can be safely heated in ovens and microwaves. The higher temperatures also mean that amazing glaze effects can be created, resulting in very desirable and beautiful pieces of pottery!
What does the course include?
In this workshop, we will teach you the basic techniques of stoneware glazing, and you can choose your own colours and specialist glazes to use. You will get to glaze two mugs (the whiteshapes shown below) which we will fire for you, ready for collection one week later.
